The assessment criteria for the selection of pupils are:
- Academic ability & achievement (all applications)
The committee will assess the applicant's academic record, achievement and legal knowledge as well as assess the applicant's ability to:
- absorb information quickly
- identify the essential points at issue
- assimilate facts and arguments
- reason effectively
- Commitment
The committee will assess the applicant's motivation for pursuing a career at the Bar generally and at 30, Park Place in particular.
- Communication skills
The committee will assess the applicant's ability to communicate effectively and assess their likely skill before courts and tribunals and with potential lay and professional clients.
- Character and personal qualities
The committee will assess the applicant's general character as well as their ability to relate to other people, how they are likely to relate to existing members of chambers and other pupils, solicitors and lay clients.
- Courtesy
The committee will assess the applicant's demeanour, courtesy and temperament at interview.
- Integrity
The committee will expect every applicant to have a history of honesty and discretion.
- Impact
The committee will assess the impact which the applicant has made during the application process and interview, and will particularly consider the applicant's confidence and articulation. The impact made by the written application will also be taken into account.
